Why I Bought This Tesla for Our Garage—and Why You Might Want It in Yours

While I'm a huge fan of the Model X, I always look closely at the three things that matter most: battery performance, vehicle history and charging capability. This 75D makes the grade with very encouraging indicated range, an accident-free CARFAX and the desirable CCS charging retrofit.

Here are the top five reasons this Model X makes the grade:

1. Encouraging battery performance

At a 59% state of charge, the display showed 200 kilometres of Rated range. Extrapolated to a full charge, that indicates approximately 339 kilometres—about 88.5% of the original 383-kilometre factory rating.

That is an encouraging result for a 2018 Model X with 120,299 kilometres.

This calculation is a useful snapshot rather than a formal battery-capacity test. Actual driving range will vary with temperature, speed, terrain, climate-control use, wheel selection and driving style.

2. CCS charging capability

This Model X has received the CCS charging retrofit, increasing its flexibility when travelling or charging away from home. In addition to Tesla’s charging ecosystem, it can access compatible CCS charging equipment when used with the appropriate adapter.

For an earlier Tesla, this is a meaningful and practical upgrade.

3. Dual-motor all-wheel drive

The 75D uses Tesla’s dual-motor all-wheel-drive system, delivering immediate electric torque, confident four-season traction and smooth, quiet acceleration.

Before offering this Model X for sale, we reviewed its CARFAX history, confirmed the CCS retrofit and recorded its Rated-range display at a known state of charge. It has been  thoroughly road-tested, independently inspected, serviced as required and Ontario Safety Certified.

The 2018 Model X is famous for combining features no conventional SUV could offer: instant electric performance, a panoramic windshield, distinctive Falcon Wing doors and a spacious, quiet cabin.
